Who We Are
Wide Bay Advocacy is the peak advocacy organisation across the Wide Bay Burnett and Central Queensland regions of our great State.
We are a not-for-profit registered charity that aims to advance social justice, promote and defend human rights, and advocate for equitable access to justice. We believe that every person deserves to have their voice heard and to be treated with dignity and respect.
We are an independent, regional and human rights-based organisation supporting people and communities who experience disadvantage, exclusion, discrimination or barriers to justice.
Our work includes, but is not limited to, advancing the rights of people with disability. We also advocate for broader social justice, fair treatment, access to legal and community supports, accountable decision-making and the removal of systemic barriers that affect individuals, families and communities across regional Queensland.
Our regional presence gives us a clear understanding of the barriers experienced by people outside metropolitan centres. These include distance, limited service choice, workforce shortages, digital exclusion, reduced access to specialist support and the difficulty of navigating complex systems without local assistance.
We bring together local knowledge, professional advocacy expertise and strong community relationships to ensure that people are heard, respected and supported to exercise their rights.
Our Mission
Our mission is to advance social justice, promote and defend human rights and improve equitable access to justice for people and communities across the Wide Bay Burnett and Central Queensland regions.
A central part of this mission is to advance, protect and promote the rights of people with disability in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
We provide independent, rights-based advocacy that supports people to understand and exercise their rights, make informed decisions, access justice, challenge discrimination and participate fully in community life.
We also work to identify and address systemic barriers that prevent people from enjoying their rights on an equal basis with others.
Our Vision
Wide Bay Advocacy’s vision is for socially just, accessible and inclusive regional communities in which every person is respected, heard and able to participate fully.
We seek a future where people can exercise their rights, make their own decisions, access the services and supports they need, and live free from discrimination, violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Our vision is grounded in the belief that inclusion requires more than access to services. It requires communities, institutions and systems that recognise the dignity, contribution, potential and diversity of all people.
